Descendancy research is "Cousin Research" and consists of the following:
Start with yourself. Follow your family line back in time to an ancestor born in the1700s for example. Then start with a sibling of this ancestor and come forward in time to the 1850s or later to find new names to add to your tree.
You will find that people born after 1850 are going to have a lot more records available and you can much more easily find new names to add to your tree. This is a rewarding process that is a lot easier to learn than to do research on people a long way back with few records that is better suited to the professional genealogists.
